My way out of the school and into the hard world of business!

HTBLA-Braunau Fachschule f�r Elektronik, this is the name of the school where I was trained as electronics technician. This was the best time of my life, so far. After graduation, I decided to join the Austrian army for 8 month. During my tour of duty I had plenty of time to think of what I should do with my life. I had 2 possibilities to choose from. Either, to try to find a job in Austria or I go to the USA (because of the Green Card I have) to join my mother and her family and try to find a job over there. First I tried to find a job in Austria, but when I realized that this was hopeless, I decided to take the next flight to the US, and here I am. I finally have been employed, after a nerve wracking job search of four month.   • Twelve Gates (August - November 1997)

    Developed 32 bit Windows business application for a health products company. Software included:

    • Inventory control with incremental search, maintenance and editing features.
    • Invoicing modules with automatic update of the inventory.
    • Ordering mecanism for automatic reordering of items falling below a preset threshold.
    • Customer history and automatic recall of unpaid invoices.
    • Monthly activity reports and yearly summary.
    Data is stored in Paradox 5.0 tables accessed through the Borland Database Engine. Import functions for transfer of data from a legacy DOS program was also provided.
    Project developed with Delphi 3.0
    The software is currently used for the Washington DC office of Twelve Gates, a San Antonio (Tx) based company.
    
    
  • American Communications Company (American Systems Corporation) (December 1996 - Present)
    Training as Electronics Technician for building, installing, testing and maintaining Internet service equipment:
    • Intensive training on an Internet-Network-System-Testbed:
      1. AT&T - Worldnet equipment (Routers, Edge Vehicles, Modems, T1 - and T3 - Lines, SMC - Cards, Hub's, Power Reset Controllers (PRC's), DSX - Pannels, Ethernet Patch Pannels, Uninterrupted Power Supply's (UPS's)).
      2. System Inter - Bay Cabling (cabling of the, Modem -, Hub -, Router -, Edge Vehicle - and Network - Cabinets, Krone Block to Krone Block connections, Octal Sync, SMC, UPS, In Band and Out Of Band cabling system).
      3. Installing telephone lines.
      4. Practicing cable lacing techniques, and system- and cable- labeling.
      5. Performing specific cabinet tests (T1 and T3 Sync Tests, Inter - Bay cable and 10BaseT cable tests, phone line installation tests).
      6. Experiencing troubleshooting possibilities.
      7. Performing work in reference to a detailed Method of Procedure (MOP).
      8. Transposing of the work on the Testbed into the installation in the field.
    • Building cabinets for a new digital network in the US State Department:
      1. Installing Routers, digital Switches (connected with the Routers through fiber optic cables), Fiber Optic Patch Pannels, Ethernet Patch Pannels, Alarm Systems and Power Supplies.
      2. Dressing in the cables for the individual cabinets.
      3. Connecting the whole system with fiber optic to make it ready for a test procedure (with various UNIX and Windows NT Servers).
    • Fabricating DDM and Sonoplex cabinets for Bell Atlantic's digital network.

    A summer training focussing on the following area of the publishing process:
    • Overview of the editing, publishing and printing process and the tools involved in editorial production.
    • Functions of a computer system in a big organization and tasks of the computer maintenance department with the opportunity of learning and testing some of the software involved in the production process.
    • Prepress Department where text and pictures are merged in electronic form. Hands on in the operations of the color proofing system.
